Learn English or French


As Canada’s only officially bilingual province, we speak English, French, or both in New Brunswick. Newcomers can choose to integrate in the Anglophone and/or Francophone community.
MCAF provides Language Learning and Skills Development (LLSD) English Language training for newcomer adults aged 18 years and older.

Permanent Residents can receive an English or French language assessment through the CCNB Language Assessment Centre.
To register for an assessment through CCNB, download this information sheet. It explains how to register by downloading the Free app iCent, available on Google Play or the Apple Store.
Work Permit Holders can receive an English language assessment at MCAF.
After you complete an English language assessment, you can be placed in one of MCAF’s English Second Language classes. Our class levels range from Foundation Literacy to CLB 7+. We offer full-time and part-time classes at various times.

Care for Newcomer Children (CNC)
On-site childcare is available for clients in English language classes. MCAF CNC qualified staff provide a caring, safe and welcoming environment for children aged six months to five years and in the After School Program.
The MCAF CNC area has designated play areas, encouraging children’s physical, cognitive, social, emotional and language development.

Newcomer Computer Learning Centre
The MCAF IT staff assist newcomers to use computers for hands-on computer training, online language training, job search, resume preparation, and preparing and filing income tax.

Resources

English or French tutors
Newcomers can meet with English or French Tutors one-on-one or in small groups to practice their English or French.

Language Café
To meet our clients’ needs to practice their language skills outside the formal classroom setting, a MCAF volunteer facilitates the Language Café.
The Language Café is held Tuesdays and Thursdays from 12:00 to 12:30 pm to help learners practice their language skills in a secure social space and informal setting.
