English or French

The Multicultural Association of Fredericton Inc. (MCAF) provides Language Learning and Skills Development (LLSD) English Language training for newcomer adults aged 18 years and older.

To access English language classes, or receive support from MCAF to register for French language classes, complete the Settlement Intake Form, (link is below) or visit us at 28 Saunders St., Fredericton.

As Canada’s only officially bilingual province, we speak English, French, or both in New Brunswick. Newcomers can choose to integrate in the Anglophone and/or Francophone community.

Permanent Residents

Permanent Residents can receive an English or French language assessment through the CCNB Language Assessment Centre.

To register for an assessment through CCNB, download this information sheet. It explains how to register by downloading the free App iCent, available on Google Play or the Apple Store.

Work Permit Holders

Work Permit Holders can receive an English language assessment at MCAF.

After you complete an English language assessment, you can be placed in one of MCAF’s English Second Language classes. Our class levels range from Foundation Literacy to CLB 6. We offer full-time and part-time classes at various times.

Home Study Program

If you are unable to attend regular MCAF English language classes, MCAF staff will refer you to the online LINC Home Study program.

Care for Newcomer Children (CNC) offers on-site childcare for parents in MCAF English Language classes. CNC offers full/part-time spaces for newcomer children ages 6 to 24 months. CNC qualified staff provide a caring, safe and welcoming environment.

Newcomer children explore age-appropriate activities and themes, helping them to meet developmental milestones and beyond. The MCAF CNC area has designated play areas, encouraging children’s physical, cognitive, social, emotional and language development.
